Synthwave: What's all the noise about? - Exploring New Frontiers in Electronic Music.
Welcome Voyagers ...
Whether you're curious about new music genres, bored of the current bubblegum pop world or feeling a little more adventurous in your musical tastes ... Welcome to Planet Synthwave!
Our Mission Statement:
To explore the new wave of electronic music and retro synth pop cultures, disseminated by a network of brave new explorers and creators.
Has Synth Pop finally re-invented itself?
You may remember the creative explosion of the 80s; electronic bands, one hit wonders and new genre defining songs. Electronic music then developed over 3 decades in several directions: Dance music, Ambient, Electro, Drum & bass, Garage & Techno as well as more recently Deep & Tropical Pop-house, Future Pop and Grime.
Whilst all these genres and artists have been vying for the limelight, it seems a certain old familiar concept is sneaking under the radar of the commercial music establishment, positioning itself in strategic flanks, ready for a surprise invasion......a Synthwave Invasion!
And its funny because Synthwave and Retro New Wave are very clever in their make up and dna, because they have key elements that have appeal to both young and old.
Are we on the cusp of man's most valuable or desirable invention .... time travel itself? and could it very well involve a Flux Capacitor and Delorean, a red body warmer, 501s and a Skateboard?
What is Synthwave ? What is RetroNewWave ? What is VaporWave ? What is DreamWave ?
If you're curious to engage Warp Drive towards these new worlds, they all have similar landscapes and atmospheres, and some might say, fluid compsitions. Ranging from tempos as slow as 80 beats per minutes to the techno geared 130 bpm, you have the drums which range from 80s -esque reverbing snares to modern compressed kicks and snares, also plenty of Synth sounds, ranging from your eargasmic pads (chords), to rhythmic synth hooks and arpeggios. Add to that any range of sounds effects, whooshes, explosions, samples from literally anywhere and you've got a widely diverse and eclectic evolving genre!
What's also interesting is what's left to explore? Synth pop and dance music has explored a vast swathe of musical composition and note combinations over their almost 40 year run, So will the New Breed of synthwave composers and producers be aware of this? Will there be duplication? Copying? or is there an unwritten code amongst the producer communities of not venturing too close to the already well chartered territories?

Who's Riding High on the wave of new Synth music?
You may have seen the film Drive - which has been largely responsible for exposing millions of people to an exclusive set of producers. Those lucky enough to have made the cut on the soundtrack will continue to enjoy new fans and explorers to their social media pages.
